Bangalow Pizza Co makes wonderful Pizza

There's a lot of Pizza in the world unfortunately not all of it is a good as the Pizza from Bangalow Pizza Co. The setting is simple and no fuss, how the product is the result slightly understated and the fruit of an experienced hand. Tonight the chef has earned his 6 pack of Peroni.

Blu Fysh on the River (ballina)

It's cold and windy but the fish and chips are warm at Blu Fysh this afternoon and so was the welcome. When traveling with small kids the joy of simple food well done is often more rewarding and aligned with the offspring's attention span than "out of the way" gourmet delights.

As it turns out Blu Fysh was just what we needed this afternoon. The chef was super friendly and good with the kids. The fish looks and tastes good. Blu Fysh may not have any Michelin stars or Chef's Hats but it certainly put a smile on out dials this afternoon.

Caramellised Nut and Cream Tart - Macadamia Castle

Holy Smokes, this tart was sooooo good, we had at have two.

Sweet Shortcut pastry underneath, Almonds, Pecans and Macadamias bound to each other with creamy sticky caramel. If this doesn't put a smile on your face nothing will.

The Macadamia Castle is on the Pacific Highway at Knockrow about 10 mins south of the Byron Bay turnoff. It's a great outing for the whole family with animal feeding, train rides, mini golf and an awesome cafe.

Thai Coconut Cake - Choux Choux Patisserie Bangalow

Choux Choux is perched near the top of Byron St (main street of) Bangalow. It's a beautiful mashup of French pastry, Art Nouvea decor, and the little country town that Bangalow was. Sometime that was probably not found in Bangalow 50 years ago is a Thai Coconut cake. Fortunately progress has it's rewards and Choux Choux's is this cake.

Fish Heads - Byron Bay

A good Banana bread is something can hang your hat on, not that Fish Heads Byron Bay really needs to worry too much. In the Location, Location, Location stakes Fish Heads trumps all contenders being plumb on Main Beach. Gladly thier Banna Bread is a solid pass and great value at around $7. A meal, afternoon drinky or coffee at Fish Heads will leave you feeling you have had a beach side getaway even if you call Mullumbimby, Myocum, or Suffolk Park home. OK back to the view

Mongers + Daylight Saving + Beach = Bliss

Monitoring a load of Social Media conversations in and around as we do, we know that Mongers is a real favourite amongst Byron Bay Food joints. This afternoon towards the end of what seemed an endless afternoon (thx daylight savings) we decided to slip down to the beach for Fish and Chips. We elected for Mongers which was, as usual, busy.

With a tribe to feed we went with the Family box Fish, fresh oysters, prawns, calamari, and a mountain of big fat hand cut chips.

The box is presented as attractively as a box of seafood and chips can be garnished with parsely and swirls of deep fryed sweet potato ribbons.

At $50 it's not the cheapest in town but you can't complain about the value. Mongers can be found in Bay Lane just behind the Beach Hotel, which happens to be a very short walk to the beach.

That just happened to be the best place for Fish and Chips this long and lovely Summer evening.
